Affiliate Marketing FAQ For Beginners

affiliate marketing faq

If you have questions about affiliate marketing, then this Begginer FAQ is for you!

I have compiled a list of common questions you may have as a new affiliate marketer and will do my best to answer them. If my answers aren’t good enough, please leave a comment and we’ll talk about it!

The goal is to help people learn how affiliate marketing works and what they can do to succeed in this competitive space.

Some people will talk really negatively about affiliate marketing and you really shouldn’t waste your time listening to them.

I used to be one of those people.

I HATED marketing. It just seemed like a bunch of lies, tricks, and gimmicks.

HOWEVER, as I got older and learned more and more about business, I realized that marketing is essential for us to spread ideas and to get exposed to solutions to our problems.

In other words, marketing doesn’t have to be some unethical scam you pull on people, it can be used for good instead.

– Don’t have to make your own product
– Selection in products to promote
– Low risk (cheap)
– Low barrier to entry
– High potential for profit
– Can become passive easily

– Low barrier to entry
– Not having your own product means you’re sharing profit margins
– Feels impossible at first, especially until you get your first couple commissions
– There’s a lot of garbage products out there that suck people in
– Almost half of affiliate marketers make less than $20,000 a year.

How Do I Get Started With Affiliate Marketing?

The best way to get started with affiliate marketing is to do a few simple things. I’m going to just list a rough idea of what you need to do here, and if you want to learn more you can read this guide we have already written.

Anyway, here’s a ROUGH idea of what you’ll do.

1- Make a website, Youtube channel, and social media accounts.
2- Learn about something, or come up with some kind of gimmick to get traffic (it’s easier than you’d think).
3- Make a schedule and create content to release on your site/social media.
4- Come up with a way to monetize what you do (easy with affiliate marketing, IF you have traffic)
5- Expand your business however you choose.

This is just a FAQ so I’m just going to leave it at that.

Realistically, affiliate marketing takes a lot more than that, but it’s not the work itself that’s hard, it’s the constant worry that get’s you.

Can Affiliate Marketing Be Done Without A Website?

Affiliate marketing CAN be done without a website, however, websites cost almost nothing and can help scale your affiliate marketing to ridiculous levels.

If you’re not building a site, or paying someone to build a site for you, you’re just ignoring money.

However, if you’re really interesting and dedicated, you can do the social media follower grind and try to make money that way, I just don’t really like that approach.

Even if you’re a Youtuber or Twitch streamer you should still have a website to bring people to your streams and to sell merch. It just makes sense to get the extra money.

How Do I Find Products To Promote?

This is the REALLY interesting part about affiliate marketing. Most companies have an affiliate or referral program set up and all you have to do is apply directly on their website.

If they don’t have a link on their site, you can always try googling it to see if they even have a referral program and contact the company yourself if you have to.

Affiliate networks help connect affiliates and companies with products to sell.

How Can Affiliate Marketing Help My Business?

Affiliate marketing can help in more ways than one.

You can promote products for companies and build a full-time income consistently by being an affiliate, OR you can launch a product and have affiliates sell it for you.

It really depends on how you want to approach your business, but all of it is easier to set up than you’d think thanks to technology.

How Affiliate Marketing Works?

Affiliate marketing is a very easy concept to understand once it gets explained to you properly once.

A company will pay people to tell their friends, family, social media following, or anyone they can contact, about their product and get them to either sign up, or convert into a sale.

This helps the company because they don’t have to hire a large sales force, while still giving freelance affiliate marketers a chance to drive sales and earn money too.

What Are The Best Products To Promote?

The best products to promote are digital products, and here’s why.

When a company makes a physical product for distribution, the manufacturing cost of each individual product has a cost. Labor, materials, electricity, to name a few.

That money comes directly out of the money available to pay commissions. Companies need to maintain certain profit margins to be worth the time.

On the other hand, digital products only cost money when you create it or update it.

So since there’s no manufacturing cost once the product exists already, then that leaves room for paying higher commissions to affiliates and your sales team.

What Makes Affiliate Marketers Fail?

Most of it comes down to mindset, honestly.

It can be extremely hard to stay encouraged and motivated when you’ve been typing all day every day for 6 months, and everyone you know is telling you that it won’t work.

You just have to get through that part or give up and pretend blogging is just over-saturated. Whatever makes you happy.

We have another article that talks about some of the mistakes we have made along the way and how to deal with them. Hopefully it’ll help.

Is Affiliate Marketing A Pyramid Scheme?

The short answer, is no, when done legally and correctly, affiliate marketing is not a pyramid scheme, scam or any of that nonsense.

Criminals try to use affiliate marketing to scam people out of money illegally, but that’s not our fault as affiliates! About 80% of companies have some sort of affiliate or referral program, they just don’t really talk about them because all the affiliates know that already.

Which Affiliate Marketing Niches Work?

Pretty much all of the niches work, BUT you should probably avoid anything medical or completely out of your realm of comprehension.

If you can’t understand how quantum mechanics works you probably shouldn’t be trying to monetize a quantum mechanics blog, right?

Do yourself a favor and stick to the more down to earth niches and carve out a place for yourself in the one that makes you the happiest.

What Is An Affiliate Network

Affiliate networks are companies that connect affiliates with products to promote for a commission. The affiliat network basically acts as a middleman and collects a cut as well.

Usually the affiliate network handles all the conversion tracking so it makes it nice and easy for companies to just let the affiliate network handle the affiliates.

What's The Best Affiliate Network?

Well, that’s a hard question to answer.

Amazon is definitely a contender, which isn’t surprising considering they basically dominate everything.

Shareasale is also a very big one. Some people like Clickbank, but I’m not a fan.

Personally, I’m a fan of just using the affiliate programs from the companies themselves.

Thank You!
